3 Ways To Recover Your Lost Data

Data loss is one of the worst things that could possibly happen to a person, especially if they had been working on a project and were just about to finish. The thing about data loss is that when it happens, the first thing that one should do is immediately stop using the external memory storage device and the computer in general. This will help ensure that hard drive data recovery is possible.  It will do this by protecting the deleted files for the data recovery which would otherwise be overwritten when one continues to use the device.

But, how does one get back the data that they deleted?

When one right click the file and selects delete, the system simply hides the data as it removes its file directory and shows that the space is free use. When this happens, you can easily get the file back by simply rebuilding the file directory. The truth is that the data in that space has not been deleted until the space is actually used which is when the associated data blocks would be overwritten.

When you continue using the device, it leads to the previous data being erased and overwritten with new data. This decreases the chances of successful data recovery significantly. The risk increases even more when one has a USB drive, memory or hard drive that has limited space.

Three Ways to Recover Deleted Files

Method 1: Recover Deleted Files from the Windows Recycle Bin

One of the first and easiest ways to recover the lost data is by retrieving it from the Recycle Bin. When files are deleted on the computer, they are moved to the Recycled Bin and until you choose the Empty Recycling Bin button, it is possible to retrieve the data. If you haven’t done so, simply locate the file by opening the Recycling bin and choosing Restore after right clicking on the file. It will automatically restore the deleted files back to the original location.

Method 2: Restore to an Older Version of the Lost or Deleted File

In case the Recycle Bin has been emptied, you can try to recover the previous version of the lost or deleted file by using backup and restore feature that is built into Windows. In order to do it, the following steps will need to be done for Windows.

  • Click on the Start Button and head to the folder which previously contained the folder or file, right click on that folder and choose restore previous versions.
  • A list of available previous versions of the deleted files would show up with different times and dates. Simply choose the version which you would like to retrieve and click on restore to recover the deleted files.

Method 3: Use Hard Drive Data Recovery Software

If you want to get the version of the file that you just lost and are willing to go the extra mile, then you need to use hard drive data recovery. The software provided by the hard drive data recovery will easily locate the deleted file and recover it for you in no time.
