The Asus Transformer Book is a portable laptop with some good features, it is a laptop but can be detached to become a tablet, so it’s a kind of two in one, and you get the choice how you want to use it.

The ASUS Transformer Book T100TAF is one of the lightest notebooks in the world, it weighs just 2.4 lbs, making it perfect when you are out and about and if you want to lighten your load a little bit you can always detach it from the keyboard and take the tablet with you that weighs just 1.2 lb, making it ultra- portable.

The ASUS Transformer Book has a full laptop hinge, and attaches to the keyboard so it could pass for a small laptop, it is mostly made of plastic, there is metal on the inside of the hinges to provide a bit more strength. The back of the tablet looks quite glossy, the keyboard has a brushed metal look, and the bottom of the keyboard is matt plastic.

The start screen is based around Live Tiles, and these icons will show you real time information from your chosen favourite apps, including emails, news, sports, and social networking which you can access straight from the home screen, and you receive important information and notifications without having to open an app.

The ASUS Transformer Book has single 1.2 megapixel front facing camera which is good for speaking on Skype, Google Hangouts or if you are holding a video conversation and will take some pretty ok photos using Microsoft Windows 8.1 camera app, and this allows you to take several photo at once so you can choose the one you like the best, by clicking on save to send it to the Windows Photo Gallery or a third party app. The only drawback with the camera, is that there is no rear facing camera, so you can’t really see what you are taking a picture of.

  • Good battery life
  • Runs full Windows 8.1
  • Convertible
  • Good price

  • The keyboard is a little cramped
  • The display could be more vibrant.

The keyboard is not the largest and might be a bit cramped for some people but is very adequate, the display and the keyboard are detached by the key above the keyboard is pressed and the screen can be pulled out from the bed. When you close the keypad with the tablet it will automatically go on to stand-by and then automatically turn on when you open it, just like a regular notebook.

Screen & Display

The tablet screen is 10.1 capacitive multi touch display which is quite decent, you get 16:9 ratio, 1366 x 768-pixel HD resolution, and IPS technology (in-plane switching) to give you bright and clear images which you can enjoy from every angle, with 178 degree viewing angles.

It might not be the brightest display, but still more than adequate., and there is a Reading Mode feature which detects the environment around you so that it can automatically adjust the brightness, contrast, and colour of the display so that reading is a lot easier, even when using for a while.

Speakers & Sound

The sound is not too bad either, the ASUS Transformer has SonicMaster to produce a good sound quality, using larger sound chambers which claim to reduce distortion and give you a clearer realistic sound even when in noisy places.

The ASUS Transformer includes free for 1 year, Office 365 Personal subscription and access to full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more which makes the price a very attractive deal, and is perfect for a student or working professional, to keep any important documents or photos, the extra 1TB online store Office 365 Personal provides with One Drive.

You get Windows 8.1 which has a number of improvements like new ways of snapping apps to different parts of the screen and deeper customisation options, for example being able to use desktop wallpaper on the start screen, all your favourite programs and apps are right there at your fingertips.

When you are out and about you need the battery to hold out, and the ASUS Transformer Book has got a very good battery life, which built-in inside the keyboard, you can get up to 8 hours on a single, full charge, and this is down to the ASUS Super Hybrid Engine II power management system, as well as that, the ASUS Transformer will give you 14 days of standby with quick wake up time.

The ASUS Transformer Book T100TAF is a cool idea, as it is convertible from a laptop to a tablet which is quite appealing having a two in one product, the design is quite nice and compact, though not the thinnest when both parts are attached, but weighing just 2.4 lbs and a 10.1 inch screen, it is a perfect travelling companion. The 10 inch screen works well in both tablet and laptop mode and gives a screen resolution of 1366*768 pixels which is an appropriate resolution for the screen size and doesn’t give you any scaling problems.

The ASUS Transformer Book is responsive and feels nice when you are holding it, although the keyboard is on the small side and could feel a little cramped for some people, but if it wouldn’t be so compact if it was bigger, it is made from mainly plastic material which looks quite nice as a tablet or laptop.

One of the best points is the battery life, on a full charge you should get about 8 hours or more of use, so that it will last you most of the day when you are out on the road which is pretty impressive, and you won’t have to worry about the battery dying on you.

The fact that you get Office 365 Personal subscription and access to full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more free for a year is really good for the price of the package, makes it quite good value and particularly useful for students.

The ASUS Transformer Book T100TAF is quite a bargain for what you get for the price, ok it might not be perfect, but for a two in one laptop there are some good features and it is lightweight and compact for carrying around and you also get the versatility of using it two ways and it comes at a good price.

This is also perfect if you are looking for those extra functions and you want something that will give you great battery life and the 2 for 1 features as well.

The ASUS Transformer Book T100TAF is well worth a look.
