How Jobs Are Created in the Gambling Industry

Although operating an online gambling site within Norway’s borders is illegal (except for the state-owned companies Norsk Tipping and Norsk Rikstoto), there is no law preventing Norwegians from accessing gambling sites operating from other countries. That means that Norwegians will be able to access the sites listed on noreenfraserfoundation, although they are not supposed to.

We help Norwegian players find casino spill sites, but we wanted to know if online gambling benefits our country with jobs. Benjamin Repperson, our author and an expert on online gambling, helped us investigate jobs in the gambling industry.

Legislation In Norway

Before looking at jobs in the gambling industry, we first need to look at Norwegian legislation and how it affects job opportunities for Norwegians. The state last updated the gambling laws in 1995 but has submitted new legislation to the European Commission for approval. We expect the state to enact the 2021 legislation before the summer.

The legislation will broaden the services offered by the two State enterprises, creating some Norwegian jobs in the gambling industry within these companies. The laws also allow limited advertising for gambling games, giving marketing professionals more opportunities.

The Norsk Bransjeforening for Onlinespill (NBO) disagrees with the new laws, believing that Norwegians will continue using foreign gambling sites. NBO thinks the state will lose approximately NOK 1.215bn in possible taxes by not licensing and taxing private operators.

Ancillary Jobs Created For The Gambling Industry

We all know about the jobs created directly by the gambling industry, like dealers, pit bosses, concierges, and security specialists. For example, Bet 365, based in Stoke on Trent in the UK, employs over 5,000 people worldwide. Let’s look at other jobs the online gambling industry generates:

  • Web Developers
  • Marketing
  • Content Writers
  • Coders
  • Graphic Designers
  • IT Security Experts
  • Customer Service Representatives

Web Developers

Web developers design websites for online gambling to give you the best possible entertainment experience. The online gambling industry is competitive, and marketing and web design are crucial to these websites’ success.

Marketing

Although direct marketing of gambling sites is illegal in Norway, casinos that cater to Norwegian players use digital marketing platforms to inform and educate customers about their websites and the forms of gambling on offer. The role of a digital marketer is to create content that engages the target audience to promote a brand.

Content Writers

The content used for digital marketing has to come from somewhere, and that’s what content writers offer. A freelance writer can contribute content like reviews, blog posts, and guides to contribute helpful information to a website. The only necessary qualifications are the ability to research various topics and write engaging pieces that appeal to web users.

Coders

Coders write the computer code that allows applications to work on computers and cellphones. A coder creates every game you play online, the websites you visit, and the apps you download on your phone. Web developers and graphic designers design how a website or app looks and behaves, but the coder creates the end product.

Graphic Designers

Online gaming is a visual experience, and graphic designers use their talents to make the website design appealing to the eye. Graphic designers also have a hand in the design of different games and the marketing process. The visual aspect of any website is crucial to its success.

IT Security Experts

Wherever money is moved in large amounts, people will try to redirect it for their own use. The gambling industry moves significant amounts of money, so security experts need to monitor the security of these sites constantly.

The IT security professionals need to monitor the casino’s security and ensure the data privacy of their clients to prevent online fraud. To implement and maintain security measures, the IT professionals need to know how the software and networks operate.

Customer Service Representatives

Whenever a customer has a query or complaint, customer service representatives need to respond. They need patience and in-depth knowledge of the casino policies and the legal requirements of their jurisdiction. They also need the ability to communicate clearly with the customers, preferably in their own language. Customer service employees answer telephone calls, emails, and live chat queries.

Conclusion

As you can see, the gambling industry generates many jobs and a significant income. We’ve only covered a few of the jobs that online gambling creates to give you an idea. Still, the industry also reaches into many other sectors, providing employment for counsellors, financial experts and more.

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
