The first thing you really notice about this laptop when you open the box is the overall design. With a Titanium and Copper color scheme and a design that is evolved to incorporate the cooling technology, it’s very distinctive. Colors aside, the laptop looks smooth and sleek from the front, but it is at the back where the vapor chamber cooling is found that the design really comes into its own. Inspired by stealth fighter jets it has something of the jet engine at the rear, curved at each side the outlets give this laptop a distinctive stance.

Build quality is first rate all around, everything feels made from very high quality materials and the whole laptop is very solid. It gives confidence that this is built to last.

  • OverClocked 6th-generation Intel Core i7-6820HK 2.7 GHz. 64 GB DDR4 RAM. 512 GB
  • PCIeG3 x4 NVMe SSD + 1 TB 7200 RPM HDD.
  • 17.3-inches Matte IPS FHD display, 1920 by 1080 resolution. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M w/
  • 8GB VRAM gaming graphic card with G-Sync
  • Backlit anti-ghosting gaming keyboard with 30-key rollover for precise command and control in battle. Responsive keystrokes from the ergonomically-designed keys with 2.5mm of key travel.
  • Unique thermal design directs dust into a dust-release tunnel to keep it away from internal components for longer lifespan and enhances overall stability
  • ROG-Exclusive mobile 3D Vapor Chamber Thermal Pipe increase thermal capacity to improve GPU performance by up to 6 percent.
  • Although a gaming focused product, the high end processor and graphics card along with large amount of RAM and hard drive capacity make this laptop a great choice for any power user.
  • It really is great for games with a clear large screen that is bright and works really well for any kind of gaming.
  • It also has the raw computing power to be an excellent choice for video of photo editing, animation work or any number of other applications, and is a genuine desktop replacement.

  • There are some downsides though, all that power need somewhere to live and as a result this is a very large laptop that weighs a lot.
  • This is not a portable device that you throw in a bag as you run out the door, it’s a big, heavy piece of technology that you will never forget you are carrying.
  • That is the inevitable tradeoff between computing power and portability, and for the foreseeable future, one we will always have to make.
  • The red backlighting and accents are also something that may not be to everyone’s tastes, and to some eyes can look a little garish, but this is all part of the gaming branding that comes with Republic of Gamers styled products, and for those that love their gaming, the look is probably everything they want

Durability and Security

High quality materials are found everywhere, the case itself and all the touch points of the laptop, the keyboard and touchpad, all feel incredibly solid and built to last.
Security is handled by windows defender, with this signature edition Microsoft set up the system perfectly from day one with no software trials or other unnecessary programs. Just Windows defender all set up correctly to provide a secure environment for daily use. Dedicated malware prevention software would have been a nice addition, but is easy to add on for those who want to go that extra mile with security.

From category: Gaming Laptops

The keyboard on this laptop is actually quite special, ASUS proclaim it a world first on a laptop, with backlighting in red and anti-ghosting technology with 30-key rollover for those hectic moments in games. Impressive specifications aside though, it’s also a very nice keyboard to use with good spacing, aided by the size of the laptop case itself of course. It has a relatively short travel at 2.5mm but does have a positive feel and is as comfortable for typing as much as it is for gaming. While the focus is definitely on gaming performance, this is a great keyboard for general use as well, and makes the laptop a pleasure to use.

Display and Audio

The 17.3 inch display dominates your impression of the laptop when you open it up, the size itself is very impressive, but that is only the start. Full HD at 1920×1080 resolution may not be unusual or as impressive as some out there, but this is a display with G-Sync, ensuring that framerates match the screen during gaming and with no tearing or other artifacts that can spoil immersion on any game. Additionally, the colors are vibrant, with deep blacks as well as great contrast, games look great and text is easy to read.

asus rog - 2

The ROG G752VY comes with Sonic Studio, a software/hardware combination that provides immersive, high quality gaming audio that really enhances the gaming experience. It also includes a high quality voice capture technology too, gaming voice coms are clear and precise with the inbuilt noise reduction helping to remove extra noise. There is a utility called Sonic Radar that places an overly onto any game, and signals the relative position of a gunshot or footstep and so on to you in the game. This is great for FPS games in particular and works quite well, although some may find it distracting in use.

Ports and Webcam

The big news here is Thunderbolt 3, providing up to 20Gbits/s data transmission through a single cable, almost twice that of USB 3.1. This connectivity is provided by a dual use USB 3.1 Type-C socket, providing either USB or Thunderbolt to match the device you use. Additionally there are 4 USB 3.0 ports, one of which is powered for device charging, along with a LAN socket for 10/100/1000 speed connectivity. The laptop also features Bluetooth 4.1 and 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wireless connectivity so there is never a shortage of ways to get online or connect to other devices.
Visual connections are taken care of by a single HDMI socket and a Mini DisplayPort, both work well for connecting to an external monitor and the power of the laptop means that it can happily drive a 4K monitor should you wish, although gaming performance at those resolutions is not smooth and framerates are really not high enough, it works well for video or photo editing.

Audio connections include a Headphone output combo with S/PDIF, a single 3.5mm line-out and a microphone input, while the webcam is a 1.2MP HD device that provides a nice, clear image for video calls.

As you would expect from the specifications and intentions of the design, performance in more or less any activity you throw at it is very good, in games especially, having detail turned to maximum on even demanding games is no problem. High framerates, smooth and responsive gameplay and exceptionally fats performance in all tasks are what this laptop is all about, and it does not disappoint.

asus rog

From startup the system is snappy, thanks in part to the SSD used to hold the operating system, and in use you never feel that you are waiting for anything to happen or the system is holding you back in any way. This is true through gaming but also with productivity applications, it really is a desktop replacement in the truest sense.

The graphics are driven by the GeForce GTX 980M graphics module, and it’s a powerhouse that can run games at highest settings on the 1080p screen, maintaining great framerates and smooth gameplay. While the screen resolution is not the highest that is in common use today, the overall effect is really good, great looking graphics and with G-Sync ensuring no tearing or graphical issues, everything is always smooth.

Battery Life

One of the downsides of all the computing performance on offer is that it needs a lot of power to fuel it, and perhaps unsurprisingly this does have an effect on battery life. The battery itself is non-removable and rated at 90Wh, and in although you can get three to four hours of use depending on activity, this is really a laptop best used with mains power.

Software & Warranty

A real selling point of the signature series from Microsoft is they eliminate all the trial software and other installations that most users never use. That itself contributes to the snappy startup times and overall performance. The additional software included is mostly aimed at performance and gaming, Asus’ own Sonic Studio software enhances the audio performance while a lifetime XSplit Gamecaster account allows recording or streaming of games as you play them.

The laptop arrives out of the box with 12 months warranty plus 12 months of accidental damage protection, and while the warranty itself is shorter than most, 24 months being the average, the accidental coverage is arguably even more valuable.

High quality construction, fantastic performance and attractive looks are the hallmarks of the ROG line of laptops, and this one is no different. It is quiet and cool even during extended gaming, and the performance on offer is up there with the best for portable computing. From gaming through photo editing to video and rendering, this computer has the performance to take it all in its stride, while the G-Sync screen is a beautiful thing to use, providing high framerates and smooth, seamless performance.

However, there are some disadvantages, it is large and heavy and with short battery life, all a product of the sheer amount of hardware inside the classy looking case, making it a good choice as a desktop replacement, but not something that is easily used on the go. Some may see the red backlighting and highlights a little garish, but they are in keeping with the gaming direction that comes with the ROG brand, and it doesn’t detract from the overall quality feel of the system.

The Asus ROG G753VY is a really well made and is among the best gaming laptops that offers everything you could want from such a machine, as long as you don’t expect too much portability.
