The Chromebook differs to standard chromebooks as they are normally cheap and have a dull design. Although the Toshiba Chromebook 2 manages to keep the price down the laptop is attractive and has an excellent screen giving you great value for money.

Design
You will find that the Chromebook 2 is a great laptop if you are on the move it is easy to put in a bag or a backpack for laptop and it is only 1.35kg in weight which means that it is very light. The computer is 320mm wide and 214mm deep which is around the same size as the Macbook Air and it will give you a 19.3mm thickness.
The best thing is that it is only a fraction of the price of the Macbook Air.
You will also find it is a good looking machine and mixes awesome style with usability as well. It has a coating of silver plastic and it also has the distinctive dot pattern on the top to add texture and ensure it stands out from the crowd.
As mentioned above in the cons, the only downside with the Toshiba Chromebook 2 is that it does not feel that solid. You could easily bend this if you are not careful and you will find that with a little bit of pressure on the screen it will distort the display.
It is not so fragile you have to handle it with kid gloves but it is just something to bear in mind.
The connections you get are many and you will find that you will get a charging port, a micro USB 2.0 and an SD card slot as well as a HDMI out, a headphone jack, a Kensington security lock and a USB 3.0 slot that will sit on the right hand side.

Performance
The main thing you will love about the Chromebook 2 is the 13.3 inch, 1920 x 1080 IPS display. It gives you a stunning performance and we recommend that when you buy you go for the Full HD version as it will blow you away how good this looks.
You will find that the colors are rich and bright and the quality of the blacks and the brightness of the whites are akin to a far more expensive display.
You will find that if you plan on watching moves you will love it – just remember that if you are watching a widescreen movie you will find that the brightness drops a little and the colors distort but this is not that noticeable.
You will get a really bright screen and it is actually measured to 300 nits! If you are using this outside it can really help as it will get rid of the glare you normally get from the sun. The speakers are really good as well and they are made by Skull Candy and this gives you another reason to watch movies on it as the bass will be VERY good.
Keyboard
This laptop will give you a black tile keyboard and you will find that it is a slightly different set up, for instance you will not find a caps lock key, and the delete or print keys that are normally present are not there either.
You will get used to it though and you will find that the keys are a good size and spaced far enough apart for easy typing.
One thing worth bearing in mind is that the keyboard does not have a backlight.
The trackpad is large and really easy to use – it also feels solid and will give you a good amount of resistance when you are pressing. This also has another little quirk when you are using the trackpad. Instead of separate buttons for the left and right clicks, you will click with one finger to activate the left click and you will click with two fingers to activate the right click.
You can also use gestures as well – if you swipe to the right with two fingers it will take you to the previous page and if you do it the other way to the left it will take you forwards. You can also switch tabs with your fingers and if you swipe up with three fingers it will display all the windows you have open.

There is an Intel Celeron processor inside the Chromebook 2 and it is paired with 4GB of RAM – in the standard HD you will get just 2GB.
You will find that it boots quickly and you will also get 16GB of on-board storage – bear in mind that as this is a chrome book most of your files will be held on the cloud and you will get 100GB of free cloud storage.
You do need to be connected to the web to use the Drive apps and to aid with this you will have an 802.11ac+agn Wi-Fi which is the latest and fastest versions available. Plus you will also get Bluetooth 4.0
You will also find this handles video and media easily and even when you are browsing a lot of browser tabs on the internet all at once this rarely slows down.
One thing worth bearing in mind with the Chromebook is to remember that this runs Chrome OS and this is different to Microsoft or Apple. Instead of programs it runs web apps and it is built to make the most of Google’s services and products.
So you will need a Google account and a good internet connection to get full use of this.
You will also get a full user guide and if you haven’t used Chrome OS before you don’t need to worry, most people stay connected to the web when using a computer now anyway.
Battery Life
You will get between 9-11 hours of use out of the Full HD model watching TV and browsing the web. It will also charge very quickly with about 30 mins adding 30% to battery life.
Verdict
We think you should have a serious look at the Toshiba Chromebook 2 and if you can do without Skype, Microsoft word, iTunes etc.. You will love the features.
We also recommend that you get the FULL HD version as the screen is REALLY high quality.
If you are looking for a Chromebook go for this one you will NOT be disappointed!
